Why Cord-Cutting Is One of the Most Powerful Things You Can Do After a Breakup or Divorce (Even If You're Not Into the "Woo"):

CORD-CUTTING IS ONE THE BEST PRACTICES YOU CAN DO AFTER ANY TYPE OF RELATIONSHIP ENDS

I’ll be honest…I absolutely believe in energy.

I believe we're more than our physical bodies. I believe our experiences leave energetic imprints, that emotions carry a vibration, and that relationships create invisible connections that can linger long after we've said goodbye.

I've witnessed it in my own healing. I've seen it in the women I've worked with. Time and time again, I've watched people leave a cord-cutting ceremony feeling lighter, calmer, and more like themselves.

But here's something that's just as important to me:

You don't have to believe what I believe for this practice to be deeply healing.

Maybe you're spiritual. Maybe you’re curious.  Maybe you are a bit of both.

Maybe the words "energy" and "cord-cutting" make you roll your eyes a little. That's okay!! Because whether you explain it through spirituality, psychology, nervous system regulation, or emotional healing, the experience is remarkably similar.

Whether you believe in energy or not, we all know what it feels like to carry someone with us long after they've left. You replay conversations while driving. Your stomach tightens when their name appears on your phone. You imagine what they're doing. A song transports you back years in an instant. You keep hoping they'll become the person you needed them to be and just can’t seem to let go.

Whether you call that an energetic cord, an unresolved attachment, or an emotional pattern, it's something that's still holding part of your heart and attention. It’s something that is draining your energy and taking your power out of the present moment.

Many people think healing means forgetting, it doesn’t! Healing means gently releasing the invisible attachments that keep pulling you back into yesterday. And healing begins when you consciously choose to be aware of and release those attachments.

What is Cord-Cutting...Really???

For me, cord-cutting is both a spiritual and emotional practice.

Spiritually, I believe we create energetic cords with the people we deeply love. Those cords aren't inherently bad—they're simply connections formed through shared experiences, intimacy, commitment, and emotion. Everything we envisioned and also experienced in a relationship with someone is holding our energy.

When a relationship ends, however, those cords can continue pulling on us, keeping us emotionally tied to pain, resentment, guilt, longing, or hope for a future that no longer exists.  A lot of times a relationship shatters our life faster than our heart can comprehend, and the residual effects of this are buried deep within our body, mind and soul.

A cord-cutting ceremony is a sacred act of releasing those unhealthy attachments while honouring the love, lessons, and growth that relationship gave us.

If spirituality isn't your language, think of it this way:

You're creating a new boundary with your past. You're telling your mind and body that it's safe to stop carrying what no longer serves you. You're giving yourself permission to move forward.

Different beliefs with the same destination - and the final destination arrives with more peace, more presence and more freedom.

One of the most beautiful parts of this practice isn’t what you lose, its what you reclaim. The energy you’ve been spending thinking about them comes back to you. The love you’ve been waiting for them to give begins growing side you.  The future you’ve been mourning starts becoming one you’re excited to newly create.

At the end of the day, I care far less about what you call it than how you feel afterward.

If you leave feeling lighter...If your nervous system softens...If you stop carrying yesterday into tomorrow...

Then the practice has done exactly what it was meant to do.

And I’m so excited to see how this makes room for the life that’s waiting for you on the other side of letting go. Because I believe that healing doesn't happen by pretending you never loved. It happens by honouring what was, releasing what no longer serves you, and courageously choosing yourself - again and again.
